Just between us, I have always loved the idea of finding a message in a bottle washed up on the beach. How did it get there? What does it say? Is it a romantic declaration of love? An important recipe? Someones grocery list?! I want to know! All jokes aside, to me “A Message at Sea” is about speaking with my future self.
When I started this piece the pandemic had just gotten serious, no vaccine in sight, total lockdowns were being implemented across Canada. There was a lot of uncertainty. I needed something positive to occupy my mind, somewhere safe to focus my hope and ambitions so that it could endure and carry me forward as we navigated the pandemic. I put those feelings in that bottle and left them to be found later.
