I am pleased to announce that my order of a Key to Good Fortune Enamel Pin have arrived! It has been a few months since I put the official order in and I’ve been waiting impatiently ever since! When I opened the box and saw the vibrancy of the colours, and the rose gold finish for the first time. *Chefs Kiss*
For something that is part of my day to day life I still find it special to see something go from a sketch to a finished product. I don’t know how else to describe it other than it is a little surreal, and a little euphoric. I hope this feeling never dulls.
Inspiration Behind this Lucky Enamel Pin
Originally inspired by a recent painting of mine of the same name. “A Key to Good Fortune” I’ve fallen in love with the theme, and plan on making a handful of more pieces with lost keys in different settings. Does that mean more pins? Probably!
The butterfly depicted in this pin is a “White Cabbage Moth” or Pieris rapae. Despite its common name, it is actually a butterfly. White butterflies symbolize a handful of different things, including good luck, purity, and prosperity. Symbolizing the unseen connection you have with luck.
The flower the key is entangled on is Alfalfa, also known as Lucerne. A staple of the Canadian prairies, and an important drought resistant feed crop. It symbolizes good fortune.
I don’t know about you but whenever we go into an antique store, I always search out the old keys. It’s fun to think about what they might open. This key is actually modelled after a key in a friend of mine’s collection. It is intended to symbolize your ability to unlock your own good fortune.
Key Enamel Pin Details
A Key to good fortune enamel pin is made from hard enamel polished down to create a glossy and smooth finish, It’s also known as cloisonne. The enamel is flush with the metal. I chose to use nickel for the finished metal, giving it a slightly rosy hue to complement the flowers, as well as the key.
To help secure the pin, and to prevent it from spinning. There are two butterfly clasps on the back.
