The Somewhat Daily Adventures of Bur

Super Mario’s 35th Anniversary

While Bur figures out how to unfold himself, or adjust to his new role as folded soldier. Let’s talk.

I’ve been having a lot of fun with the theme. Now I have an excuse to do even more! Nintendo is releasing a bunch of Super Mario themed games and bundles to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the franchise.

Secretly I’m living for it!

Nintendo definitely likes to play to Nostalgia. I will be getting Super Mario 3D world, and the 3D all stars bundle. If you missed the Nintendo Direct announcement I’ll leave a link here for you.

Wildfires in America are Effecting Canada

Thanks to a gender reveal party, and some very poorly planned “Controlled Fires” we are now breathing in all that lovely smoke.

Vancouver is experiencing some of the worst air quality in the world. I haven’t seen blue skies in over a week. My eyes are puffy. Everything smells like campfire. It’s bringing back memories of the Okanagan Wildfires in 2003. Which I did experience first hand.

I have seen a few articles stating that most states are getting the fires contained, and that their rainy season is coming. Hopefully that doesn’t change in the coming weeks.

We’re gonna get a little heavy here, this is important.

Time and time again we are reminded that global warming is real, and that it is a threat.

Nearly half of us do not vote, and the rest seem to continue to vote for leaders that deny and ignore the climate crisis.

We can’t allow that to continue. There is no time to wait around until the elite start exploiting climate activism and global warming for profit.

American friends! PLEASE register to vote, and please don’t vote for another four years of the apprentice. It wasn’t good.

And subject change!

Whats on the Drawing Table?

Botanical Themed Greeting Cards

This week I’ve been working on the first of five botanical greeting cards. A red Peony.

Don’t worry, you will hear all about it!

Just not in this blog. There will be an article all about them once the project is complete. That will go into detail about how the cards were designed, where the inspiration stemmed form, each cards unique symbolism, and more.

Keep an eye out for that!

If you signed up for the updates, you’ll get to see progress photos, and snippets of the article before anyone else. Including instagram.

An American Gold Finch

I’m still working out the composition. The original plan was to have it completed for an event this past July.

Spotted fluttering around my sketchbook!

Unfortunately Covid cancelled it, and priorities shifted.

A Western Hemlock Looper Moth

Vancouver has recently been over run with these little moths. Millions of them! They’ve taken over social media, and some people have started calling them our overlords.

Once every 8 to 15 years there is an outbreak of this size. It’s our local eco system at work!

I’m working out the details but there will be a piece coming commemorating the experience.

For those of you that don’t want to wait. I have a bunch of butterfly and moth themed pieces available in my shop!

ALRIGHT! I think I’ve blathered on long enough.

Stay creative my friends,

Justin Erickson
